Fabrication of Steel
$200
Steelmaking is a brutal ballet-grimy, relentless, and elemental. Yet in the cloak of night, its violence becomes strangely beautiful, as molten sparks arc into darkness like fireflies born of flame. Fabrication of Steel is an abstract ICM photograph that channels this paradox, conjuring the spirit of bygone mills through a tactile, constructed scene. Cardboard strips, plastic bags, and tissue paper form the raw materials, animated by a rotational ICM technique that mimics the centrifugal energy of industrial machinery. The result is a swirling composition of shadow and shimmer, where texture and motion collide to evoke both the labor and the legacy of steel’s creation. It’s a tribute to the hands that forged, the heat that shaped, and the ghostly glow that remains.
