I had two objectives in writing this book. First, and foremost, it is an update on my previous book, 'Studio ICM'. After writing 'Studio ICM', the techniques I use to create my work began to rapidly evolve. I don't know why the evolution of my work happened so quickly. It just did. The images I am producing now are very different than what I was making just a year ago. So, 'The Emotional Residue of Dreams' contains a lot of new material for the photographer to consider when employing camera movement in his/her creative endeavors.

The second part of the book is an exhaustive study of dreams and how they impact my work. I did not originally plan to include this material in the book until I produced 'Aunt Alice' (a.k.a. 'Kiss Me You Fool'). For some unknown reason, this image really resonated with me, and it was not until I showed 'Aunt Alice' to my sister that I realized what was going on internally with my work.

What I discovered is that images that speak to me are often those that trigger memories of past events, sometimes traumatic, that have resulted in recurring dreams. It is the connection between dreams and images that often make the results of my work so special to me.

With that realization, I began a deep dive into dream research, their meanings, and how dreams impact our daily lives. In my case it is the creation of art. As my dreams and art are so intertwined, I decided to include the findings of my dream research into the book as well. For the artist who produces work that has a personal resonance without an understanding of the 'why' behind it , 'The Emotional Residue of Dreams' may help in the discovery of how dreams can subconsciously influence one's artistic journey.
