When I was a young child growing up in the coal regions of Appalachia, one would occasionally hear of a miner stumbling upon something from the distant past. That doesn't happen so much anymore now that mechanization of mining has taken over the industry. But some of the tales of unexpected things were extraordinary. This image hearkens back to those stories of remnants found within the mines.
